Tips for bending sheet metal

When bending sheet metal, it's all about smart choices and efficiency. Make sure you take various factors into account during the design phase so that the work can be carried out quickly and smoothly, and your result is exactly as you want it. An important question, for example, is how close you can place a hole to a bend without the sheet deforming. This all depends on the press brake tooling and the working pressure it can handle.

How does a press brake work?

Metal sheets are bent using a press brake, a powerful press that works with an upper die and a lower die. The sheet is placed between the dies, with the upper die pressing the sheet against the lower die. This process causes the sheet to deform. Once the upper die has been lowered completely and the sheet has the desired shape, the upper die is raised again and returned to its starting position. The lower die always remains in the same place. Depending on the operation required, different dies can be used.
